Italian restaurant chain, Zizzi, has won the award of Best Vegan Pizza with its rustica Margherita, at this year’s Peta’s Vegan Food Awards.
The rustica Margherita pizza is made with dairy-free cheese, fresh tomato sauce and a selection of vegetables layered on top.
A spokesman for animal rights charity Peta, said: “This national chain has won over the UK’s vegans by offering a dairy-free cheese option on any of its pizzas. With a crispy thin crust, zesty tomato sauce, a selection of vegetable toppings and gooey vegan cheese, we think the vegan rustica Margherita pizza is the best. Moreish starters and luscious desserts, too?! You had us at ‘vegan cheese’.”
Earlier this year, Zizzi’s spring summer menu saw it become the first restaurant chain in the UK to provide vegan pizza options that include a mozzarella alternative. This season’s menu expands the chain’s vegan and vegetarian offering further, with the addition of a vegan lentil ragu and a new vegan coconut gelato.
Jo Fawcett, marketing director at Zizzi, said: “Zizzi is proud to offer a menu that caters for everyone, regardless of dietary requirements or personal preference. As a brand we are all about choice and feel that this season’s menu really provides that with a delicious range of vegan options. Whatever your diet, Zizzi has fantastic dishes to match.”
