The Original Cake Company launches two new vegan cakes for foodservice

Just in time for Veganuary, The Original Cake Company is helping cafes to increase their vegan cakes range with two delicious new sponges

As the number of vegans and those interested in eating a more vegan-friendly diet increases, it is even more important for independent cafes and restaurants to cater for the vegan community.

And options need to be varied, and of comparative price and quality to their non-vegan alternatives. Otherwise that independent cafe is at risk of losing its customers to chains such as Costa, Starbucks and Pret, who are trying to appeal to the vegan pound.

The Original Cake Company has responded to growing demand from cafes, restaurants and the hotel industry for more innovative and appealing vegan options by introducing two new cakes in time for Veganuary.

Vegan cakes with mass appeal

The Lemon & Blueberry Cake showcases a lemon and blueberry sponge filled with lemon frosting and blueberry jam, finished with lemon frosting, a drizzle of lemon icing, and a final flourish of lemon peel.

The second new addition is the Oreo Cookies & Cream Cake. The vanilla and dark chocolate chip sponge is layered with a cookies and cream frosting and topped with Oreo biscuit pieces, chocolate sprinkles and a dark Belgian chocolate drizzle.


A taste of luxury

Dan Swanwick, Sales Manager of The Original Cake Company’s wholesale division, Café Direct, comments: “Veganuary is a huge and very popular movement and as a result, our café customers are increasingly asked by their customers for vegan cakes to enjoy with a cuppa or as a little taste of luxury after a meal.”

“We created these two new cakes to satisfy the growing consumer appetite for vegan options but also to give operators the opportunity to maximise sales during Veganuary and beyond.

Both 10 inch cakes can be cut into 14 portions and are available from The Original Cake Company’s wholesale division Café Direct, which now offers a 24-hour turnaround from order to delivery across Lincolnshire and further afield into Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire.
