Vegan news outlet gets backing from Saudi Prince

Online vegan news outlet Plant Based News has got the backing of a Saudi prince who wants to see an end to factory farming.

Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal’s partnership with the media platform comes after his own investment company KBW Ventures last week invested $17 million into lab meat company Memphis Meats.

Speaking about the move to join up with Plant Based News, the Saudi prince explained that he wanted a platform to help people understand the motivation behind the vegan movement.

He said: “I thought Plant Based News offered a better way for people to understand what was happening in traditional agricultural sectors. Are the meat and dairy industries struggling? Let’s just report the facts to people and have them decide for themselves.”

Co-Founder of the site, Robbie Lockie, said: “We are delighted to have teamed up with Prince Khaled. He is such a passionate vegan, and is so determined and single-minded about working towards his goal of ending factory farming.

“Working with someone who is dedicating their life to something like this is awe-inspiring. He is using his personal wealth and reputation to challenge the status quo — and that’s not something you see every day.”

Plant Based News was founded in 2015 in order to provide an alternative to the regular news sources. Lockie explained: “We want to disrupt the conventional narrative by thwarting the misinformation shared by the powerful animal agriculture lobby.”

The vegan market is growing rapidly and recent data announced that plant based food sales have now hit over $3 billion.
