Sales Double After US Restaurant Turns Vegan

A New York restauranteur has seen sales at his cocktail bar soaring after switching to all-vegan menus.

Ravi DeRossi transitioned to veganism after the death of his beloved cat. The animal lover and ‘on-off vegan’ believed he had to serve meat to be successful, telling local paper Village Voice: “I got sucked into that world. I sort of lost my conscience along the way.”

But the food sales at his bar Mother Pearl – which have doubled since the introduction of the new menus – shows he was wrong. DeRossi claims he is less concerned with the additional income, as it was an ethical move, saying: “I’m more worried about my conscience and living with the weight on my shoulders of the damage I’m doing, and the suffering of animals.”
