UK retailer Sainsbury’s has added 21 new vegan items to their stores from today, 27th June. The new products see their range increase by 10 per cent, with vegan ready meals and new products included in the selection.
Naturli’ Foods are launching two new products: burger patties and mince. These items will exclusively be stocked in the meat aisle, a first for UK supermarkets. The product placement of these items is to appeal to the flexitarian market, as opposed to current meat-free consumers.
Sainsbury’s have also launched the Love Veg! range which consists of seven new meat-free ready meals, developed to make plant based eating even more convenient. Included in the range is a Mac ‘n Jack, Chilli Non-Carne & Rice and Veggie Katsu Curry with Sweet Potato and Sticky Rice.
Rachel Matthews, Meat-Free Product Development Manager at Sainsbury’s said: “There are already over 22 million flexitarians in the UK and we’re seeing more and more of our customers making plant based foods a key part of their diet.
“We have a dedicated team here at Sainsbury’s working on how we diversify our range of vegetarian and vegan products, across many different supermarket aisles – from exclusive chilled products through to Love Veg! ready meals and even quick options for on the go. Breadth of choice is extremely important to us and our customers and we want to provide the same variety for meat lovers and plant lovers alike.”
New products include Tofurky, Naturli’, additional Linda McCartney products and items from Vivera. The products are being stocked in selected Sainsbury’s stores around the UK.
