Which fast-food brand is winning Veganuary online?

A recent survey conducted by online marketplace OnBuy.com revealed the nation’s preferred food brand.

This year’s Veganuary has seen a rise in the number of popular coffee houses and fast-food chains launching their own vegan products.

By using search engine data from analytics tool SEM rush, OnBuy.com determined the average amount of times Brits are using Google per month to find out about the vegan products offered by their favourite food outlets.

Eager to capitalise on this development, global restaurant chains such as KFC, who are largely recognised for their meat-based products, have now started producing vegan-friendly dishes.

The survey found that ‘KFC vegan’ receives an astonishing 6,600 online queries every month, which is closely followed by the phrase ‘McDonald’s vegan’, which is searched 5,400 times every month.

‘Pizza Hut vegan’, ‘Subway vegan’ and ‘Domino’s vegan’ are each achieving 4,400 monthly Google searches.

Greggs, who started the trend last year with their vegan sausage rolls is gaining an astonishing 14,880 searches per month, for Gregg’s vegan sausage roll’ – that’s the equivalent to 41 searches per day.  The phrase ‘Gregg’s vegan’ is getting 2,400 searches per month.

On the converse, ‘Wagamama vegan’ and ‘Starbucks’ vegan’ are each generating 1,000 online searches a month.

The results also demonstrated that a considerable amount of UK consumers believe that food brands who offer vegan-friendly products are caring (74 per cent), modern (69 per cent) and innovative (63 per cent). Only 30 per cent feel that a brand is ‘risk-taking’ because it has introduced vegan products to its range of options.

Managing director of OnBuy.com, Cas Paton, commented: “The food industry has seen a wonderful start to 2020. With so many vegan products launched by an array of well-loved food brands, it’s undoubtedly an exciting time. The demand for plant-based products has significantly risen over the last few years and with veganism firmly in the spotlight during January, more and more people want to give vegan products a try. When it comes to coffee shops and fast-food chains, this research certainly shows which brands vegan initiatives are sparking the most interest from British consumers”.
