Waitrose expand vegan offerings again with new product range

UK retailer Waitrose has expanded their vegan product range again, with 14 additional plant-based items. The new products see their range of vegan food total 65 items, including own-brand and branded pieces.

The retailer also confirmed that searches for the word ‘vegan’ on waitrose.com has doubled within the past year, bringing light to the increased consumer interest in plant-based food.

One of their new product releases, the tofu Fish’less’fingers grabbed the attention of the media on their launch, and is one of the 14 new items. Other products amongst the new additions includes, Fish’less’cakes, Italian-inspired veggie balls, stonedbaked handstretched BBQ jackfruit pizza and Asian-inspired greens and smoke tofu.

Chloe Graves, Waitrose & Partners chilled vegetarian and vegan buyer said: “The growing appetite for meat-free dishes has been reflected throughout the year with rising sales of vegan and vegetarian products, as well as the introduction of exciting and innovative new products to the foodie market.

“We’re excited to be a part of growing demand for vegan products and lead the way in creating, developing and supplying innovative ranges that delight our customers. Our flavour packed products range from complete meals for a quick and easy dinner, to the staple vegan must-haves.”

Waitrose launched their vegan range in 2018 in response to the growing number of people leading a vegan diet. The range has been extremely popular with customers and continued expansion of the range further encourages consumers to opt for plant-based food, supplying variety and a wide range of vegan products.

Waitrose also made headlines as the first supermarket to have a vegan specific chiller cabinet in stores, making it easier for those looking for plant-based food that is completely free-from animal products.
