Vegan School Opens in Sweden

The Waldorfskolan school in Sweden will be fully vegan.

The school was first founded in 2006 however when the school relocated in 2018, the decision was then made to become a fully vegan school.

A first of it’s kind in Sweden, Waldorfskolan will be run as a non-profit school, currently employing 28 staff with 185 students attending. At the heart of their educational philosophy lies an interest in nature and the environment, which the school is renowned for.

Based in Hagaskolann in the region of Stockholm, Waldorfskolan will be serving fully plant-based, organic meals every lunch-time with their 2019 curriculum focussing on “Sustainability and Health”.

Veronica Blixt Myrsell, the Principal of Hagaskolan comments: “In addition to being the first school in Sweden (perhaps all of the Nordics) that serves a completely vegan menu, we have more music and crafts on the schedule
than other schools. We have a safe, family environment and visitors usually point out that there is a very warm atmosphere at the school. When the students move on, we want them to have developed into free-thinking, responsible people who can make a difference!”
