Vegan brand, Gardein, launching into Sainsbury’s in 2019

US-based brand Gardein has announced that it will be launching into Sainsbury’s stores in the UK from January 2019.

The meat-free company hasn’t disclosed which products will be available yet, but they have vegan chicken strips, vegan barbecue wings and sausages amidst their product range.

The Instagram post read: “We’re bringing a whole new world of vegan-friendly food to the UK very soon. For clean eating, guilty pleasures, and everything in between, there’s Gardein.

“Our awesome plant-based alternatives are good for you and food for the planet, too! Gardein has 90 per cent less impact on the planet and uses fewer resources in production.

“If you’re thinking about your New Year’s resolutions, and all of this sounds like moo-sic to your ears, come find us in your local Sainsbury’s this January!”

Sainsbury’s is one of the UK’s leading supermarkets, and has been adding to their meat-free range throughout the year. The retailer became the first UK supermarket to exclusively stock plant-based mince and burgers in the same aisle as animal meat, causing controversy amongst the vegan community.

However, the popularity of a plant-based diet continues to increase. With the ethical concerns attached to consuming animal products, and more recently, the environmental issues of eating meat have been in the public eye.

James Hamilton, meat-free and ready meals buyer at Sainsbury’s said: “We are seeing an increasing interest from our customers I plant-based foods, with sales of our current meat-free range growing by 20 per cent each week.

“We’re always exploring new ways to offer even greater choice, quality and value.”
