Vegan BBQ set to be one of this summer’s biggest trends

A report by Amazon suggests that vegan barbecue is set to be one of the summer’s biggest trends. The report, called #SmileItsSummer Trends Report, was carried out help customers find the perfect products to make the most of summer 2018 and beyond.

“Veganism seems certain to play a major role in eating in and out this summer as growing numbers of ethical and health-seeking consumer explore non-animal-based food and drink,” the report says. “Plant-based ‘meats’ are becoming more sophisticated, with flavour profiles and textures that are nearly indistinguishable from the real thing. We can expect to see more ‘bleeding’ vegan burgers and vegan sausages that ‘sizzle’ on the grill just like meat, but with more protein and less fat.”

The huge increase in recent years of people identifying as vegan will go a long way to explain why Amazon has singled out plant based barbecues to be such a major trend for summer 2018. The findings come from AmazonFresh’s research into some of the best-selling vegan products over the last year; their list includes Cauldron Vegan Sausages, Wild Garlic Tofu and Fry’s Family Foods Vegan Chicken Style Nuggets.

Further research in the report breaks down the most popular vegan products in different areas of London, with West Londoners preferring Quorn Vegan Hot and Spicy Burgers, and those in the South opting for Violife Slices and Coconut Cheese.

Steve Tooze, trend expert at Stylus Innovation Research + Advisory Company, stays “We’ll also see big changes in al fresco dining with the arrival of the ‘Beet-BQ’, as meat-free alternatives to traditional burgers and sausages enter the mainstream. Our choice of condiments is expanding too, with kimchi soon to be found on every picnic table and, as gardens are tended to by robotic mowers, there’ll be plenty of time to perfect these popular new vegan BBQ recipes.”
