US delivery platform highlights vegan trend

The US delivery platform Grubhub named vegan as the hottest growing trend for the first half of 2017. The company revealed a 19 per cent increase in vegan food orders since 2017 started.

It revealed that consumers are increasingly looking towards vegan options when ordering delivery food, with vegan orders emerging as one of the top three trends over the first six months of 2017. The data shows that the most popular vegan dishes for US delivery include dairy-free quesadillas, tofu wings, teriyaki quinoa bowls, samosa chaat and vegan calzones.

Grubhub is partnered with 55,000 restaurants across the US and is the largest food delivery platform in the country. Grubhub Chief Managing Officer, Barbara Martin Coppola, said: “We are delighted that our diners are expanding their tastes beyond traditional takeout staples to try out this year’s trendiest dishes from the comfort of their home or office.”

She added: “Grubhub aims to be the one place for everyone’s tastes, so it’s amazing to see that diners are embracing such a variety of foods.”

Last year, Grubhub announced that plant based food was one of the most popular trends in 2016 too, with a 58 per cent increase across the year.

A recent report showed that that the number of people identifying as vegan in the US was up 600% in three years, and now sits around 19 million vegans in the country.
