The Future of Plant-Based Protein?

A plant-based collaboration between two industry giants

DSM Royal, the science-based company that focusses on health, nutrition and sustainable living, has announced recently that they will be collaborating with the French agriculture company Avril, in a bid to bring plant-based protein to the food industry.

The aim of the partnership is to produce a unique protein that is based on non-genetically modified canola oil, which, due to its superior functional properties, high nutritional value, and balanced taste profile, has a range of applications. This makes it an ideal substance to use in meat and dairy alternatives, beverages, baked products, bars and ready-to-mix.

DSM are globally recognised for their expertise in solutions for food and beverages, whilst Avril’s is an agro-industrial group that specialises in human nutrition, animal nutrition, renewable chemistry, and renewable energy. Both companies also excel in human nutrition and health, on a mission to create a more sustainable way of living. With the need for animal-free protein rapidly growing in demand, the partnership between the two companies will surely prove to be a positive move.

DSM’s Chief innovation officer, Trish Malarkey commented: “More people are opting for flexitarian, vegetarian and vegan diets for personal, health and environmental reasons. With our expertise, DSM can support all forms of proteins produced to the highest sustainable standards. With Avril as a partner, we will be uniquely positioned to serve this growing market and look forward to helping our customers deliver great tasting, healthy, and sustainable food and beverages”
