Popular Meat-Substitute Brand Commits to Veganism

Meat-substitute brand Vivera sells non-vegan part of business, Enkco

Enkco specialises in chilled and frozen convenience meat products but are owned by the Vivera Foodgroup – a Dutch company that produces Vivera, a popular vegetarian and vegan meat substitute brand.

Vivera is one of Europe’s largest producers of plant-based products and in 2018 presented UK consumers with the first ever plant-based steak. Over one million vegan steaks were sold in Britain alone, so their decision to sell Encko means they can now focus on becoming a completely meat-free company.

Willem van Weede, CEO of the Vivera Foodgroup commented: “We are one of the first companies in the world’s meat industry to say a final goodbye to meat. From now on we only focus on plant-based foods which are really conquering the world. More and more consumers are discovering that plant-based products can be just as tasty as real meat and have many benefits for personal health, environmental impact and animal welfare. As a result of the sale of our meat activities we think we can boost even more Vivera’s rapid international growth”
