Philadelphia becomes latest city to host vegan festival

Plant-based conventions are on the rise globally with one notable festival taking place later this month.

The S.E.E.D: Sustainable Everyday Edibles and Drinkables will be held from 2 to 6 p.m on Aug. 14 at SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia.

Showcasing vegan foods from Rachel Klein, Vegan Chef Lenka, MomPops, the Soy Cafe, and Sweet Freedom Bakery, among others, S.E.E.D is a clear marker of how quickly the plant-based sector is currently growing.

The festival is organised by Meredith Rebar and Garrett Williams.

Speaking to a local Philadelphia paper Rebar said: “Whenever we’d go to these events, there’s no food to eat for vegetarians or vegans.”

“You had to pack your own food,” Williams added. “Our original idea was just to have it vegetarian but then we thought, why not take it a step further, you know, so that everyone’s included?”
