Papa John’s confirms supplier for vegan cheese pizzas

Takeaway pizza chain, Papa John’s has confirmed a supplier for their much anticipated vegan cheese pizzas, following a petition calling for the option. The chain previously responded to the petition by announcing that they would be launching a vegan option soon.

The vegan cheese will be added to its 350 UK locations, with Bute Island supplying their ‘Sheese’ for the pizzas. Three vegan pizzas will be made available, including: Vegan Sheese and Tomato, the Fresh Garden Party with Sheese and the Hot Pepper Passion with Vegan Sheese.

The takeaway chain’s Marmite and cheese scrolls will be made available as a vegan option, too.

Whilst competing chain Domino’s trialled vegan cheese in select UK stores, news on this has since gone quiet, making Papa John’s the first national pizza chain the first to commit to providing vegan options.

Dawn Carr, director of vegan corporate projects at PETA, commented: “We applaud Papa John’s for meeting the surging demand for vegan options and giving everyone the chance to enjoy the food they love. This truly is a game changer.”

PETA has reportedly worked closely with the pizza chain on helping to develop recipes and make the vegan options feasible and accessible.

The new menu will be made available from 28 January 2019.
