McDonald’s UK Launch New Vegan Option

Today has seen the launch of McDonald’s UK first ever vegan meal, catering to both children and adults.

The red pesto goujons are available as a Happy Meal and as a wrap, giving choice to adults and children who are looking for a meat-free option on-the-go. The fast-food chain is renowned for its burgers and for having few options for vegetarians, and almost none for vegans.

The new red pepper pesto goujons have been accredited by The Vegetarian Society, and have met the approval of Britmums, who worked with the chain on the new vegan option.

Lynne Elliot, chief executive at The Vegetarian Society, said: “We’re really proud to have worked closely with McDonald’s for over 10 years, and it’s great to see their veggie menu developing, especially as McDonald’s tells us a third of their customers think it’s important to eat more veggie meals.

“There’s a growing demand for veggie food everywhere and it’s fantastic to see McDonald’s meeting the needs of their customers. It is especially important for young veggies to be able to choose something to eat when they are out with their friends.

“With the new Spicy Veggie Wrap and Veggie Happy Meal carrying our trademark, diners can trust their meal is one hundred per cent vegetarian.” The ingredients are free from animal products, making it vegan-friendly, too.

Duncan Cruttenden, menu director at McDonald’s UK&I, commented: “Our commitment is to offer great food, great choice, and a great experience to our customers, and we are constantly asking them how we can evolve and improve.

“We are really thrilled to be able to give our customers this new choice with the addition of the Spicy Vegetarian Wrap and our first Vegetarian Happy Meal.”

The new meat-free and vegan option is available now.
