Collapsible, Reusable Straw Company Receive Over $1 Million in Crowdfunding

A company making innovative collapsible, reusable straws have received over $1 million in crowdfunding. The initial target of $12,500 and smashed it by raising $1,894,878. The project is being publicly funded with 38,443 backers who can pledge different amounts to support the project.

The project mission is described as: “FinalStraw’s mission is to reduce plastic straw use by giving people a convenient, collapsible, reusable alternative. In doing so, we hope to make the public more aware of the devastating effects of plastic pollution and use that awareness to pressure restaurants to stop serving straws.”

On the campaign page, the reason behind the project is made clear with facts and statistics about plastics. For example, one fact says: “1.6 straws per person per day: Americans use enough to wrap around the Earth 2.5 times every day.”

The product is BPA free, dishwasher safe and its safe for children to use with the rubberised ends. The straw folds up to the size of a car key into a case and has a cleaning squeegee included. They are available in Suck-ulent Green, Shark-Butt Grey, Healthy Coral and Arctic-Melt Blue.

FinalStraw are ambitious in their plans, and are hoping for a straw free earth by 2032. You can find out more about their campaign and product here.
