Care home receives award for meat-free food options

The SilverCrest Group has been recognised for its commitment to providing meat-free food for residents in their care homes.

The Vegetarian For Life charity-run scheme honoured Morgana Court, a care home in South Wales and part of the SilverCrest Group, for being the 1,000th residential home to be accepted onto its list.

Established in 2008 to improve the lives of older vegetarians and vegans, Vegetarian for Life’s work includes the compilation of a UK directory of care facilities and food suppliers that follow its best practice guidelines.

Amanda Woodvine, CEO at Vegetarian for Life stated: “We are delighted to welcome Morgana Court Care Home as the 1,000th member of our UK List. In the UK, there are already around 300,000 older vegetarians and vegans. Our List offers a unique and invaluable resource for people who are searching for care homes that can successfully provide meat-free meals.”

The SilverCrest Group currently provides residential care to over 300 residents across Wales. Accepting the award, Stuart Davies, Morgana Court Care Home Manager said:  “Providing tasty, nutritious meals that meet our residents’ dietary preferences is at the heart of everything we do at our homes. This naturally includes people who are vegetarian or vegan, and people who simply like these dishes.”
