Branson predicts world will stop killing animals before 2050

Billionaire businessperson Richard Branson has claimed that the world could turn towards a vegan diet within the next 30 years.

The Virgin owner isn’t yet vegan himself but has cited environmental concerns as a reason for removing beef from his diet. He recently invested in the lab meat company Memphis Meats.

Speaking to news outlet Bloomberg in an email, Branson wrote: “I’m thrilled to have invested in Memphis Meats. I believe that in 30 years or so we will no longer need to kill any animals, and that all meat will either be clean or plant based, taste the same, and also be much healthier for everyone.”

A report earlier this year highlighted that lab meat may be the future as it is one of the top trends of the year. It stated that: “With meat consumption being continually blamed for negative effects on the environment, lab-grown meat may make its way into the mass market to combat these concerns.”

There have been some calls from vegans surrounding how this meat is produced, however, as the cells used to produce the lab meat still have to come from slaughtered animals currently.
