Beyond Meat Release New Line of Vegan Sausages

Popular plant based brand Beyond Meat are launching three new sausages to add to their range of meat substitutes. The cholesterol-free range of sausages comes in three different flavours: bratwurst, sweet Italian and hot Italian. They have 43 per cent less fat, 38 per cent less saturated fat and 26 per cent less sodium than meat sausages. Made from peas, fava beans and rice, the sausages also contain beetroot, paprika and coconut oil.

They decided to develop a new line of products following health concerns from the public regarding processed meat and the components of the sausages. As for the casing, they have used a substance found in algae; however this is still being developed and improved. The range has been in development for over a year, and is a reflection on the nine years of work put into the company’s research and development on their products.

Since they launched the Beyond Burger which proved to be a great success, the company have continued to work within their niche market of creating meat-like products that mimic the texture and appearance of meat, more so than the current products on the market.

Beyond Meat’s range of products benefit those who want to do their bit for the environment by lowering their meat consumption, and benefits those who want to improve their health. CEO Ethan Brown spoke about the new sausage range, saying: “We just always want our product to be indistinguishable… this is one I felt we could get closer to the animal equivalent than other categories.”
